Clergy join mission awareness programs

BORONGAN City, Sept. 3, 2012—As part of the implementation of the Diocese of Borongan’s five-year Diocesan pastoral Plan for the Mission, around 40 members of the clergy participated in a mission awareness conducted by the Pontifical Mission Societies of the Philippines.

According to Fr. Philip Oliver Campomanes, the diocesan mission director, the implementation of the 5-year pastoral plan to the parish level requires that priests must be given mission awareness about the Pontifical Mission Societies-Philippines (PMS) and its mission programs.

“Our priests were given a heads up by Father Soc Mesiona of PMS about the Mission Ad Gentes of the Church. The need for re-evangelization of the world together with the mission collaborators, the Church hierarchy and the lay faithful which we also need for us to promote mission in our respective parishes,” Campomanes said.

Borongan clergy listen to the talks given by Fr. Soc Mesiona and PMS Staff Anthony Dameg.

Aside from the mission Ad Gentes of the Church, Mesiona also discussed the nature and function of the society, introduced its four societies and its objectives and programs.

Campomanes also mentioned apart from mission awareness, the pastoral plan will focus on school and parish based mission awareness programs, talks, symposia and a diocesan gathering which aims to create lay partners and core groups for missionary work or promotions within the diocese.

Mesiona, together with PMS staff Mr. Anthony Dameg, gave the talk last August 28 during the clergy meeting at the Bishop’s Residence in Borongan City. (Jandel Posion)
